Lots to talk about for 2013 Bear season...

First of all, we have lot's of new territory again this year. I have my work cut out for me this Spring and Summer scouting out thousands of acres of new area Eagle Mountain has picked up. The reason for this is because the private land owner (the paper co.) that we lease our bait sites from has changed things around again regarding the distribution of leases. They are attempting to make it so there are fewer outfitters crowded in any one area. A problem I never had to begin with, but really a good thing all around.

A couple years ago another guide and friend, who has bait sites far from his base of ops and close to mine, had discussed the idea of swapping some of our territories. Since I also had sites that were close to him and far from me, It made sense for us to make a trade. Well this year with the changes the paper company incorporated, it made even more sense, so we made the swap.

If you're a regular reader of my blog, you know about the Reaper Outdoors Team. The Reaper team came to Eagle Mountain last Fall for a 6 day bear hunt. and they are returning for another hunt this Fall bringing with them 7 new hunters!  Be sure to catch their new season episodes coming right up.

This is from our 2012 season. We had The Reaper Outdoors Survive the Hunt TV show hunting with us. They dedicated their hunt. Here are words from Reaper 01, Navy SEAL Master Chief, Ron Bellan...(above pic )

I have always wanted to explain the story behind this picture taken in 2002. It is a good picture, but it could have been a great one.

I am sure some people think, Wow!~ that guy shot 5 bear with his bow!  This picture was taken on a cold Sept morning after a great evening's hunt  but no,  Doug did not harvest all these Bear. He is standing behind his Bear in the middle. The reason the other hunters are not in the picture is because we were all out tracking a 6th Bear shot that night ! A 240 lb trophy that we DID recover. When we got back with it we loaded all the bears up in two trucks and headed for the butcher. 

I have always regretted not getting a pic of all 6 Bear with all 6 hunters. But I will always treasure the memory of that best single night's hunt we've had to date.

Starting in 2013, Eagle Mountain will be offering 3 day guided Bear & Deer hunts. We will be dedicating the 3rd and 4th weeks of Bear season for this special offer. If it works well, we will continue to offer 3 day hunts into the foreseeable future. With the economy the way it is, we have decided to do this in an effort to make a Bear hunt in Maine available to more people who may not be able to dedicate a whole week or afford a whole week of hunting. Our commitment to quality services including a personal guide for you or your group, great home cooked meals and comfortable old time lodging  will remain the same. Hunters will always hunt active bait sites.
