"Operation Eagle complete. We are dedicating this Bear with a bow hunt to my good friend Mike and all the NYPD at Ground 0. I carried their patch and hat in the field for 6 days. Couldn't have done it without Matt "Eagle1" from Eaglemountainguideservice.com

5 BEARS

5 BEARS

2 FEBRUARY 2013

I have always wanted to explain the story behind this picture taken in 2002. It is a good picture, but it could have been a great one.

I am sure some people think, Wow!~ that guy shot 5 bear with his bow!  This picture was taken on a cold Sept morning after a great evening's hunt  but no,  Doug did not harvest all these Bear. He is standing behind his Bear in the middle. The reason the other hunters are not in the picture is because we were all out tracking a 6th Bear shot that night ! A 240 lb trophy that we DID recover. When we got back with it we loaded all the bears up in two trucks and headed for the butcher.

I have always regretted not getting a pic of all 6 Bear with all 6 hunters. But I will always treasure the memory of that best single night's hunt we've had to date.

3 DAY BEAR & DEER HUNTS

3 DAY BEAR & DEER HUNTS

15 JANUARY 2013

Starting in 2013, Eagle Mountain will be offering 3 day guided Bear & Deer hunts. We will be dedicating the 3rd and 4th weeks of Bear season for this special offer. If it works well, we will continue to offer 3 day hunts into the foreseeable future. With the economy the way it is, we have decided to do this in an effort to make a Bear hunt in Maine available to more people who may not be able to dedicate a whole week or afford a whole week of hunting. Our commitment to quality services including a personal guide for you or your group, great home cooked meals and comfortable old time lodging  will remain the same. Hunters will always hunt active bait sites.

2 person stands

2 person stands

13 JANUARY 2013

Many times we get  father & son (or daughter) hunters... or shooter & camera person hunters. In some cases we will set up 2 stands in 2 separate trees. Once, we even had three!,  a  father (shooter), mother ( video person) and daughter (observer) team.  We actually set up 3 different stands in 3 trees... It worked ! Tough to get a bear to come in that close with 3 different human scents there but they harvested their Bear. There was even an added challenge because Dad was hunting with a bow!

Humane society after our hunting traditions again

Humane society after our hunting traditions again

10 JANUARY 2013

In 2004 Maine narrowly defeated a Humane Society led referendum to ban bear hunting in Maine. Well it appears they are at it again. This time they are going after the trappers and dog hunters of bear only and NOT the Bear over bait hunters. They are also targeting the Sring Bear hunt that takes place on Penobscot and Passamaquoddy Indian lands.  We cannot allow this to happen. Share this with your friends and join in the fight to help kick HSUS out of the state of Maine again. I call on sportsmen and women all over the country to help Maine in the battle.

Here is a link to the story that was in the Bangor Daily News today. Please read it and stay tuned. I will update in this blog as things occur. At this point HSUS is sniffing around the state house searching for sponsors.
