Remote Trout fishing trip

Remote Trout fishing trip

16 MAY 2013

I have been slacking on my fishing updates, my apologies. I could blame writers block but I believe you have to sit down and actually attempt to write in order to have that.

It's been a fun Spring. Ever since we bought the Wilderness Lodge, I have been working on developing the early Spring fishing  around the Lodge. The remote fishing opportunities and resources within a 15 miles radius of the lodge is some of the best fishing anywhere in the state! We are truly blessed to be set up where we are.  We have remote Trout Ponds, a nice remote Smallmouth pond, 2 of the best Brook trout streams in all of Eastern Maine just minutes away. I could guide a couple fishermen an entire week and not hit the same place twice.

SPRING FISHING IN MAINE FOR SMALLMOUTH,BROOK TROUT & SALMON

17 APRIL 2013

Spring fishing is here in Downeast Maine. Here's what we at Eagle Mountain are up to.

- Native Brook Trout: We fish multiple remote streams and ponds for these Maine treasures. We can walk a remote wooded brook or canoe a larger stream. One of our favorite spots is a 13 acre fly fishing only pond that is coming right up on prime time.

- Smallmouth Bass: Our early Smallmouth fishing focuses on a remote woodland river that we need to hike into. This prime Bass fishery consistently produces 2,  3 and 4 lb Smallies. After we fish the river in the deep woods, we usually jump into the canoe and fish it some more in the slower / flat waters downstream.

- Landlocked Salmon:  May is Prime time for the majestic Landlocked Salmon. We troll the big lakes in our comfortable 24' pontoon boat at West Grand Lake in the village of Grand Lake Stream Maine. As well as a few other top Salmon lakes.

4 FEBRUARY 2013

TEMP: 5 DEGREES

WINDS: 25 MPH SUSTAINED, WITH FREQUENT 40-50 MPH GUSTS.

My Friend Brian and I Fished a remote lake in Downeast Maine today. The conditions described above were brutal and were it not for the fact that I dressed in Filson Wool from head to toe, I would not have been able to stay on the lake from Sun-up to Sun-down. I was as warm as could be.

I had on my : Filson  Double Mackinaw Cruiser - Filson Mackinaw Field Pants - Filson Original Wool Shirt - Filson Alaskan Long Johns - Filson heavy duty OTC Merino socks.

Everything but my hat and my boots were Filson products. Filson Wool is the best bar none and can be depended on. It is warm and lasts for years.

We only caught 3 Salmon but it was a great day to live in Maine!

For more on these products and other great hunting apparel, go to my Wool  Clothing page.

MAY 2013 WE'LL BE SALMON FISHING AT LEENS LODGE

22 JANUARY 2013

During the month of May, Eagle Mountain will have it's 24' Fishing Pontoon boat docked at Leens Lodge on West Grand Lake. The Landlocked Salmon fishing is second to none at West Grand and Leens Lodge, known as the "Waldorf of the wilderness", is located on the pristine shores of this 13,000+ acre spring fed wilderness lake. This lodging-dining-fishing combination will bring you coming back year after year. We invite you to take advantage of the best lodging on the lake and fish with Eagle Mountain Guide Service. Owner-operator Matt Whitegiver has been fishing West Grand since 1982. That gives him 30 years of experience trolling the honey holes that only the month of May and early June can offer.

Well, here we are again at the start of another new year. Let's all hope for a peaceful and prosperous year for everyone.

This is the time of year when vacationers begin researching their plans for wherever their destination may be.  For Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park tourists coming to Maine, this means finding good lodging, great restaurants and especially fun activities for the whole family. Whether it be golf or whale watching, hiking, shopping or what we like most...Fishing!

FALL FISHING

FALL FISHING

28 SEPT 2012

Just when I thought that I had put away my fishing hat,  my Bear hat  & gearing up to don my Birding hat, the boss...

( Lisa ) ... books me a fishing trip! I had to dig deep to find the fishing hat even though I only put it away a few weeks ago.

Fishing this time of year to me means one thing. Trolling for Landlocked Salmon and Lakers. Water temps are down and the fish are up near the surface. I have never really targeted Smallies this time of year and I wondering while trolling, where I'd start looking for the big Bronze Backs this time of year. But who really wants to Bass fish when the Salmon are cruising the surface again?

26 JUNE 2012

I have been remiss in my fish reports this month. My apologies.  It has been a fantastic month of fishing From Brook Trout to Smallmouth Bass to Salmon and Lake trout. I have guided many trips since my last blog so instead of trying to tell the story of all the trips, I will let the pictures tell the stories. If you go to the fishing photo gallery and click on pg4,. all but the top 4 pics are from the past 3 weeks...I will try and do better keeping you up to date after each trip.

Thanks to all the fishermen/women and kids......

The above pic with this blog is of me with a nice stringer of Brookies caught with a friend at a remote beaver bog.

Note: For some reason the new pics I added to the photo gallery popped up on random pages and not just pg 4 :-(..... I did title all the new pics: "June 2012" that way you can tell the new from the previous pics....

BACK TO WEARING WOOL...

BACK TO WEARING WOOL...

5 JUNE 2012

I was sure glad I told yesterday's group to dress warm. Turns out they could have dressed even warmer. I had my longies on, wool socks and a mid weight coat on. It was like early May  ice out trolling again. I was ok, but they were from Louisiana and it was a bit of a shocker. The 3 were troopers though and stuck it out for the 4+ hours.

Well, not only was the weather cold, so too was the fishing. We had received about 5" of rain the 2 days before which dropped the lake temp by almost 9 degrees. The Salmon had shut down. We trolled all over the lake for over 2 hours and only caught one 15" Lake Trout.
