2014 fishing update

2014 fishing update

13 JUNE 2014

The fishing has been great this Spring with many Salmon and big Lake trout. The Small Mouth Bass fishing has been exceptional while many huge bass have been caught off their spawning beds. The beds I suspect will be empty soon.

Brook trout fishing has been good as usual as well...

Bookings have been up this year which has me fishing almost daily.

Fish update

Fish update

2 JUNE 2014

Well much to my surprise, the Bass are spawning right on schedule. I really expected with the late ice out this year coupled with the cold wet May we had that the spawn would be a little later into June. Not the case, Monster Smallies are sitting on beds right now. Yesterday I took my family out for a short fish just a couple hours before my youngest's HS graduation and he caught this nice 4lb Smallie off it's bed. 10 minutes later his brother caught a twin to this one. We also saw numerous others. We would have had an awesome day of Bass fishing but we really needed to get to graduation.

The Lake Trout fishing has been excellent this year. A good friend of mine who targets Lakers more than I do has caught some beauties. 2 over 7 lbs.

The Salmon fishing has been consistent with plenty of action. Still searching for the biggest of them. Maybe you will be the 1st.

Start of the 2014 season

23 MAY 2014

Guided my first of the season fishermen yesterday. A couple from Ottawa Canada. The man was on a quest to catch his 52'nd freshwater fish species ( Landlocked Salmon ) After 7 days of perfect Salmon weather with low clouds and showers what happens when the fog lifted ? The bright sun and big blue sky breaks out! While waiting for my guests to arrive I quickly took off all my dark lures and tied on bright shiny new ones. It took a while but by the end of the day we landed 4 nice fish, 2 Salmon 2 Lake Trout. Pics to follow. I need a new camera but as luck would have it the wife was a photographer and had a very nice camera. She will be sending me pics...

Spring 2014 fishing

Spring 2014 fishing

3 MAY 2014

It's been a long winter but Spring has finally sprung! We have been busy readying our boat ( the Queen)  for this years fishing season. I am very excited about 2014 for a number of reasons. The biggest reason has to be because the Salmon have made such a comeback in our lake! So much so that I feel very confident in saying it is now one of the best Salmon fisheries in the state of Maine. I fully expect 5+ pound trophies will be caught this year... Nuff said...

2014 Spring update

16 MARCH 2014

A look at the calendar and it appears Spring is near. A look out the window and it appears it's not even close!                                           But, it is what it is and there's no disputing the sun is climbing higher in the sky each day. The days of 50-60 degree days will be here soon and the snow pack will lose it's grip.

2013 Maine Freshwater Fishing News

14 JUNE 2013

We've had a lot of cold and rainy weather, which has made the Salmon fishing a lot of fun. The lake we fish has made a huge comeback in the Salmon and Lake Trout fishing. Most of the Spring that has been our focus. Many 3 plus pound Salmon have been caught.

The cold water had slowed the Smallmouth fishing up until yesterday. One of our longest customers came for their annual trip. We had a great day catching huge Bass. 6 of the best were:  two 20" Bronze backs, two 19" beauties, one 17 & one 16.5 inches. All 4 family member caught big fish and every fish was caught on something different. It was a fun day. Even though the lake was like glass, top water lures were the only presentation that failed to catch a fish....

Remote Trout fishing trip

Remote Trout fishing trip

16 MAY 2013

I have been slacking on my fishing updates, my apologies. I could blame writers block but I believe you have to sit down and actually attempt to write in order to have that.

It's been a fun Spring. Ever since we bought the Wilderness Lodge, I have been working on developing the early Spring fishing  around the Lodge. The remote fishing opportunities and resources within a 15 miles radius of the lodge is some of the best fishing anywhere in the state! We are truly blessed to be set up where we are.  We have remote Trout Ponds, a nice remote Smallmouth pond, 2 of the best Brook trout streams in all of Eastern Maine just minutes away. I could guide a couple fishermen an entire week and not hit the same place twice.

SPRING FISHING IN MAINE FOR SMALLMOUTH,BROOK TROUT & SALMON

SPRING FISHING IN MAINE FOR SMALLMOUTH,BROOK TROUT & SALMON

17 APRIL 2013

Spring fishing is here in Downeast Maine. Here's what we at Eagle Mountain are up to.

- Native Brook Trout: We fish multiple remote streams and ponds for these Maine treasures. We can walk a remote wooded brook or canoe a larger stream. One of our favorite spots is a 13 acre fly fishing only pond that is coming right up on prime time.

- Smallmouth Bass: Our early Smallmouth fishing focuses on a remote woodland river that we need to hike into. This prime Bass fishery consistently produces 2,  3 and 4 lb Smallies. After we fish the river in the deep woods, we usually jump into the canoe and fish it some more in the slower / flat waters downstream.

- Landlocked Salmon:  May is Prime time for the majestic Landlocked Salmon. We troll the big lakes in our comfortable 24' pontoon boat at West Grand Lake in the village of Grand Lake Stream Maine. As well as a few other top Salmon lakes.
