2016 Spring Fishing

2016 Spring Fishing

10 June 2016

The fishing season so far here in Downeast Maine has been spectacular. An early ice out meant we could put boats in the lake in March! Unheard of...

Eagle Mountain Guide Service owner Matt Whitegiver was fishing hard for Salmon and Lake Trout long before the Bar Harbor & Acadia National Park tourists arrived for the season. Now that we are into June, Bar Harbor is getting busy and so are we taking fishing enthusiasts on half day and full day trips.

Some really big Small Mouth Bass have been caught as well as some great Landlocked Salmon. One day a couple of returning Bass fishermen landed  four Smallies over 4 lbs, & one over 5 lbs !

We have caught  some 4 + pound Salmon using a method we like a lot. Trolling a streamer fly in the prop wash just 15 feet behind the boat. This is an exciting way to catch Salmon as they like to swim in the turbulent water created by the boats prop. They usually hit the fly and leap right out of the water. Lots of fun.......

Bass are still sitting on their spawning beds and when we get a rare calm water day, we are having a great time tossing tube baits on them.

Hope you get a chance to come to our part of Maine and get in a great  guided Freshwater fishing trip.
