Signs of Spring...

Writer: Eagle Mountain Guide ServiceEagle Mountain Guide Service

The Ice grows darker and darker as the hard water is getting thinner on the pond.

The birds that flew south for the winter are beginning to return, so it is time to check our Spring fishing gear. I refurbished a couple old Penn reels that will go onto new lead core trolling rods. These reels are nearly 50 years old and are like new again. Can't wait to put them in action.

The boat is not uncovered just yet, since there is bound to be 1 or 2 more snowstorms before winter finally done with us.

Our boat, a 24' pontoon boat named The War Machine, is built for fishing. She received a brand new motor near the end of last season & I look fwd to getting her back on the water.

Once the ice completely melts, it will be time to put her in and start the early Spring trolling for Salmon & Lake Trout.

From ice out thru mid-late May our primary focus is on Landlocked Salmon & Lake Trout which are cruising for smelts near the surface,

By late May we start casting shorelines for monster Smallmouth Bass.

Most days we troll early in the day and switch over to Bass mid day. Unless of course trolling is on fire.
